CLEAN WATER CONTRACTOR PROGRAM

The Clean Water Contractor (CWC) Program was developed to help local contractors understand water quality issues in Erie County by encouraging better practices, such as preventing soil erosion, controlling sediment, and avoiding/managing spills of hazardous materials from entering our local waterways. The partnership between Erie Conservation District and the Ohio Coastal Training Program out of ODNR Old Woman Creek Research Reserve was initiated to expand contractors’ knowledge and understanding of NPDES Permit coverage, establish open lines of communication, and share information about environmental impacts in a way that directly relates to the audience. A primary goal of the CWC Program is to increase permit compliance and understanding. To be recognized as a Clean Water Contractor, the contractor must achieve the following:

Attend the Clean Water Contractor Expo annually (held in February)
Sign a pledge card to be kept on file at Erie Conservation District
Remain free of local violations pertaining to stormwater runoff

Look for the CWC logo on construction company websites, office doors or equipment, or see the current list provided. If you are interested in becoming a Clean Water Contractor, you can reach out via email at vsasak@eriecounty.oh.gov or emily.kuzmick@odnr.ohio.gov.
