Ohio’s spring wild turkey hunting season is only a month away, giving you plenty of time to prepare. The single most important thing to know is this: all first-time hunting license buyers, except those purchasing an apprentice license, are required to complete a state-approved hunter education course before being able to purchase a hunting license!
If you have not taken a Hunter Education Course and received your certification yet, that can be remedied easily. We will be holding one of those courses on April 5th at the Berlin Township Farmers and Hunters Conservation Club, located at 12217 Chapin Road, near Berlin Heights.
Our Hunter Education course will cover a wide range of topics, purposed to not only prepare you for the hunt, but most importantly to keep you safe while out in the field! Whether you are a young hunter or brand new to this sporting tradition, going through this course will equip you with safe shooting and firearm handling tips, good outdoor awareness, and responsible hunter ethics.
Furthermore, Hunter Ed course participants will learn about wildlife management and conservation, which helps to ensure the long-term health and abundance of wildlife populations, allowing all of us the opportunity to not only enjoy hunting, but also create good memories for many generations to come.
This free course will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a seating capacity of 50, so pre-registration is highly recommended and can be done online at the Division of Wildlife’s website: https://oh-web.s3licensing.com/Event/Index. Select “Hunter Education” on the dropdown menu, then “Classroom” activity, pick the Berlin Township Conservation Club location and fill in the required information. For any questions regarding this course, you can contact Tim White, Wildlife Specialist and Hunter Ed Instructor, at 419-626-5211.
