Election Notice

The Ohio Soil and Water Conservation Commission will cause an election of Supervisors of the Erie Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) to be held in accordance with Chapter 940 of the Ohio Revised Code. Individuals who own or occupy land within the Erie Soil and Water Conservation District and are 18 years of age or older may vote for Supervisor.

There are three ways an eligible voter can cast a ballot:

1.) At the SWCD office, 2900 Columbus Ave. Rm 131, Sandusky, OH 44870, from 8/12/2024 until 9/9/2024 during normal business hours and 9/10/2024 from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM ; or

2.) At the SWCD Annual Meeting, which will take place at Lake Erie Arms on 9/10/2024 from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM ; or

3.) Voting absentee from 8/12/2024 until 9/10/2024, by requesting the ballot application and election ballot from the SWCD office at the following address 2900 Columbus Ave. Rm 131, Sandusky, OH 44870, by calling 419-626-5211, or email alorensen@eriecounty.oh.gov. Absentee ballots must be received by the SWCD office by 9/10/2024 at 3:00 PM.                                          

 Erie Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisors will be elected to a three‐year term commencing January 1, 2025 and ending December 31, 2027.

Nominees are:

  1. Kurt Heyman
  2. Jim Neill
  3. Phil Weilnau

Erie Soil and Water Conservation District 2024 Board of Supervisors Candidates

Kurt Heyman lives in Huron Township, with his wife Sue.  They have two sons, Sam and Mike, along with four grandsons and two granddaughters.  Kurt farms with his brothers Eric, Chase and Adam, sister Jane, three nephews Aaron, Jacob, and Amos, and niece Sadie.  They raise corn, wheat, hay, straw, soybeans, and cabbage in Erie and Huron Counties.  Heyman is a graduate of The Ohio State University, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture.  He is a Director of the Ohio Federation of Soil and Water Conservation Districts and has been on the ESWCD Board of Supervisors for 35 years.  Kurt has been a cooperator with the District since 1977, and the family farm, Enterprise Hill Farm, has been a cooperator with the District since 1974.

Jim Neill lives in Margaretta Township with his wife Marilou.  They have been married for 45 years and have two adult daughters and 4 grandchildren.  Jim is retired from Margaretta Township and has enjoyed serving as a Supervisor for the Erie Conservation District since 2019.  On his farm, Jim grows corn, soybeans, and wheat, along with cover crops to help improve and maintain healthy soil and water.  The family farm strives to be good stewards of their land and to leave it in a better condition for the generations to come.  Jim has enjoyed being an active member of the Erie Conservation District where he can pursue his passion for farming, education, and soil conservation.

Phil Weilnau and his wife, Mary, reside in Milan Township.  They have 3 daughters ranging in ages from 11 to 24.  Phil graduated from Edison High School and continued on to earn a degree in computer science from Bowling Green State University.  Although he still works occasionally as a computer consultant, Phil spends most of his time on the family farm.  Phil is the seventh generation to work on his 1400 acre farm where he and his father primarily raise popcorn.  Phil serves on the Milan Township Zoning Commission, enjoys spending time with his family, and likes to play guitar and keyboard on the rare occasion he has free time. He is proud to say that he incorporates conservation practices on his farm by planting cover crops and using no-till on 100% of his land.
